Long Beach July boxes fall 5.9pc, exports slip 0.7pc, empties down 15.9pc

CONTAINER volume at the Port of Long Beach was down 7.7 per cent to 637,091 TEU in July compared to the same month in 2015, when harbour handled a record amount of cargo, said the port authority.

July imports fell 5.9 per cent to 325,608 TEU while exports slipped 0.7 per cent to 142,812 TEU. Empties came in a 168,671 TEU, a 15.9 per cent year on year drop.

Coming off a record year in 2015 ?the third-highest in the Port`s history ?volumes at the Port of Long Beach are down 1.9 per cent through July.

With an ongoing US$4 billion programme to modernise its facilities this decade, the Port of Long Beach is building the Port of the Future by investing in capital and service improvements that will bring long-term, environmentally sustainable growth.
