THE Panama Canal has invited tenders from four finalists to design, build and operate a container terminal in West Corozal on the east bank of the waterway`s Pacific entrance.

Tenders are expected from Maersk`s APM Terminals, CMA CGM`s Terminal Link; Singapore`s PSA International and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), of the Netherlands, reports Colchester`s Seatrade Maritime News.

After the Panama Canal board authorised the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) to proceed with the bidding process, the document is available on the official site: www.micanaldepanama.com

The four pre-qualified companies have until February 3 to submit their financial proposals in compliance with the tender requirements to compete for the 20-year concession.

The 5.3 million-TEU terminal will be developed in two phases: the first phase for the construction and operation of the 3.2 million TEU terminal with 1,350 metres of quay and 66-hectare yard. The second phase will cover 56 hectares and increase capacity by 2.1 million TEU.
