HERE are the world port rankings in TEU throughput and the degree to which they went up or down in 2015.

1) Shanghai, 36.54 million TEU, up 3.5 per cent; 2) Singapore, 30.92 million TEU, down 8.7 per cent; 3) Shenzhen, 24.20 million TEU, up 0.7 per cent; 4) Ningbo, 20.63 million TEU, up six per cent; 5) Hong Kong, 20.08 million TEU, down 9.7 per cent.

6) Busan, 19.43 million TEU, up four per cent; 7) Guangzhou, 17.57 million TEU, up 5.7 per cent; 8) Qingdao, 17.50 million TEU up 5.3 per cent; 9) Jebel Ali, 15.59 million TEU, up 2.3 per cent; 10) LA/Long Beach, 15.35 million TEU, up 1.3 per cent.

11) Tianjin, 14.11 million TEU, up 0.4 per cent; 12) Rotterdam, 12.23 million TEU, down 0.5 per cent; 13) Port Klang, 11.89 million TEU up 8.7 per cent; 14) Kaohsiung, 10.26 million TEU, down 3.1 per cent; 15) Antwerp, 9.65 million TEU, up 7.5 per cent.

16) Dalian, 9.3 million TEU million, up 8.2 per cent; 17) Xiamen, 9.18 million TEU, 7.1 per cent; 18) Tanjung Pelepas, 9.13 million TEU, up 7.1 per cent; 19) Hamburg, 8.87 million TEU, down 9.3 per cent and 20) Laem Chabang, 6.82 million TEU, up 3.6 per cent.
