Nagoya posts 3.3pc March decline to 210,324 TEU, total cargo off 2.8pc

THE port of Nagoya in Central Japan handled 210,324 TEU in foreign trade in March, representing a decrease of 3.3 per cent year on year. 

Within this total, exports were flat at 110,815 TEU (+0.2 per cent), while imports decreased 6.9 per cent to 99,509 TEU.

Domestic trade accounted for 16,231 TEU of the total, up 7.5 per cent from a year earlier, reported IHS Maritime 360. 

Cargo volume fell 2.8 per cent in March to 18.5 million tonnes as both foreign and domestic trade were weak.

Of the 18.5 million tonnes handled, 11.8 million tonnes came from foreign trade, down 1.1 per cent from a year earlier, and the remaining 6.7 million tonnes came from domestic trade, down 5.5 per cent.

The port handled 4.9 million tonnes of export cargo, down 0.2 per cent from March 2014, and imported 6.8 million tonnes of cargo, down 1.7 per cent
