Los Angeles box volume finds bottom in May with 0.8pc increase

THE Port of Los Angeles container volume increased 0.8 per cent in May year on year to 694,791 TEU - the first growth month this year.

But LA box volumes from January through May are down four per cent to 3.18 million TEU.

Loaded import volumes at the port decreased 0.8 per cent in May to 348,427 TEU and exports declined 3.5 per cent to 152,917 TEU.

The port made up lost ground moving empties, which increased 7.9 per cent, but volumes have still not recovered to pre-recession levels when throughput topped 8.5 million TEU.
