VICE PRESIDENT Xi Jinping, expected to be the next leader of China, visited the Port of Los Angeles in the third and final leg of his US tour to view ongoing expansion of the China Shipping terminal costing US$121 million dollars.

Mr Xi cited China Shipping terminal as a "role model for future co-operation between the Chinese and US business communities" boasting 1.5 million TEU handled in 2011, 10 per cent of the port`s overall volume which records the highest cargo volume of the US from China.

A stable China is a "positive force for world peace" rather than a threat to the US, he said at the LA Chinese Ministry of Commerce-hosted trade conference, reported London`s Containerisation International.

Mr Xi, said to be the successor to President Hu Jintao, will fly from the US to Ireland and then on to Turkey en route to China for further global trade talks.
