HAMBURG`S largest stevedore HHLA has outpaced Antwerp and Rotterdam in container traffic by 21.3 per cent in 2011 at 7.1 million TEU, handling two-thirds of all container traffic at the Europe`s second largest container hub of Hamburg.
The Germans economy helped to boost the stevedore`s impressive performance which built revenue to US$1.6 million, a 14 per cent increase year on year supported by double digit increases in Asia-Europe and East European markets.
"Our new mega ship berths and the expansion of our hinterland network contributed significantly towards this success," said HHLA chairman Klaus-Dieter Peters.
Intermodal traffic to German and central and east European hinterland grew 11.3 per cent to 1.9 million TEU supported by hub and shuttle services to Poland and the Czech Republic.
