DANISH shipping giant Maersk has announced a general rate increase (GRI) in its US-Far East trade lanes of US$180 per TEU and $200 per FEU, 40-foot high-cube and 45-footers starting November 15.

The increase applies to all cargo from Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to the Far East, including Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

Maersk`s decision follows MSC`s and the Westbound Transpacific Stabilisation Agreement`s (WTSA) earlier announcements of rate increases starting November 1.

MSC announced it will raise rates for US-Far East trades with increases of US$100 per TEU and $200 per FEU for port-to-port and intermodal services by $150 per TEU and $250 per FEU from November 1.
