CHINA SHIPPING`s 9,600-TEU New Hong Kong has docked at DP World`s main Jebel Ali, UAE, on its China to Middle East service, marking the first call of a CSCL ship of that size, reports Xinhua.

As trade volume between China and Middle East increased, the company upgraded the service from 5,600 TEU ships to meet growing demand, said Wan Jun, CEO of China Shipping (West Asia) Holding.

The vessel is the largest running between China and Middle East service which usually deploys 3,500-TEU vessels. The Middle East area imported cargo from China totalling 1.7 million TEU, of which 158,000 TEU were carried by CSCL, or nine per cent of the total market.

The New Hong Kong is the fifth of eight ships of that size the company has bought or chartered. The first four were deployed in China Shipping`s Far East to Europe service.
