GENEVA`s Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have taken three more containerships from Maersk Line indirectly through a charter from Greek non-operating owner Costamare.
The three 1,920-TEU ships, the Maersk Maine, Maersk Vermont and Maersk Maryland, were run by Maersk unit Farrell Lines, and had been deployed under the US-flagged Maersk Line.
Broker sources tell London`s Containerisation International that the price paid by Costamare was US$10.5 million per ship, with MSC fixing the rate at $10,000 a day for a year.
In December last year, the Danish carrier Maersk also sold the last three of its 20-year-old 4,814-TEU `M` class ships to MSC for a reported US$30 million a piece.
