Transpacific trade revenue up US$4 billion in third quarter year on year

REVENUE was up US$4 billion in the transpacific trade in the third quarter year on year to $10.61 billion versus $6.52 billion generated in the same period 2009, said a Chester, UK-based BoxTradeIntelligence report.

The report focused mainly on port-to-port terms. The North American east coast trade lanes continued to be the most profitable for carriers in the third quarter. North American-Far East trade yielded $2.92 billion with $1,200 per TEU in the third quarter, while revenue from Far East to the North America amounted to $7.69 billion with $1,900 per TEU.


Volumes between Far East and North America were 4.05 million TEU with 83 per cent utilisation, while backhaul volumes from North America to Far East were 2.44 million TEU with 55 per cent utilisation.


Exports from central China to North America grew more than 40 per cent. From south China to the US west coast, exports were up 17 per cent, and to the Canadian west coast by 32 per cent.
