China`s express package volume up over 20pc in first quarter

CHINA`S express industry package volume and revenue both recorded a year-on-year growth of more than 20 per cent during the first quarter of this year, according to statistics posted by China Post, quoted by the report of Logistics Week.
In this period, China`s express package volume increased 24.3 per cent to 470 million pieces. Revenue of the industry increased 23.7 per cent to CNY12.4 billion (US$1.8 billion).
Revenue grew 13.6 per cent to CNY840 million on same city delivery, up 20.3 per cent to CNY6.8 billion on different city delivery, and up 29.3 per cent to CNY4 billion on international, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan services.
Xu Yong, Chief Consultant from www.cecss.com, a website offering consulting service to the China express industry, said he`s not surprised at the robust increase as China`s express industry has kept a fast growth even during last year when the industry is gloomy due to economic downturn. He estimated that China`s express package volume will have a double-digit growth by the end of this year.
In March, China registered an express package volume of 190 million pieces, up 24.8 per cent year on year. Revenue rose 21.5 per cent to CNY4.7 billion.
An unnamed person from an express company quoted by the report said his company`s business has been in a rapid growth since after the Chinese New Year holiday, mainly due to increase of online shopping. In the meanwhile, international deliveries are also on the return.
