EAST China`s Taicang port handled 22,000 TEU through its across Taiwan Strait service this year to date, up 72 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua.
Taicang port, located in Jiangsu province, is one of the first batch of six ports to open cross-strait direct service in late 2008 and a port of container trunk lines for Shanghai International Shipping Centre.
The port owns six container berths and four more under construction with a total capacity of 4.35 million TEU. Its container volume is expected to exceed 1.5 million TEU in 2009.
It is also the largest port for foreign trades in Jiangsu province and for container transport in Yangtze River area with operation of 75 services home and abroad.
