Iran launches first 2,200-TEU ship, the Iran-Arak

IRAN Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co (ISOICO) built the country`s first container vessel capable of accelerating to 32 knots (59.3 Km/h) and sailing 25 days non-stop at a manufacturing cost of US$50 million, said a company statement.
Its inaugural sailing from the southern province of Hormozgan was attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who congratulated the shipbuilding team on their success. "Our progress in the shipbuilding sector is highly commendable," he added.
The vessel is 185 metres (607 feet) long, 30 metres (98.4 feet) wide, has 10 metres (32.8 feet) of draft and uses more than 16.7 MW to reach 21.5 knots and will now undergo sea trials in the Persian Gulf.
The manufacturing company, ISOICO, operates under the Industrial Development and Renovation Organisation of Iran (IDRO), added the statement.
