New 55-tonne load limits bar trucks from Tianjin

TIANJIN`s city government has enacted new regulations banning trucks weighing more than 55 tonnes from entering the city while granting heavy lift licences to those who apply, reports Xinhua.
The move follows a bridge ramp collapse on the Tianjin-Shanxi highway last month. Civic authorities have since set up weigh stations on at points near the city limits.
Trucks exceeding the legal weight limit will face CNY1,000 (US$146) fines and suspension of a business licence if found guilty of five offences within three months. Cases in which dangerous negligence can be determined will bring criminal charges.
