INTERNATIONAL oil and gas company Total and French Shipping giant CMA CGM have signed a three-year deal to combine expertise to fit into tighter fuel regulations in the shipping industry.

Total will become CMA CGM`s multi-fuel supplier, providing various grades of compliant low-sulphur fuel for ships equipped with exhaust scrubbers as well as LNG fuel to eliminate sulphur oxide (SOx) and cut CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions.

Said Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne: "The new regulations require both marine fuel suppliers and shipping industry to adapt quickly. That is why we are working hand in hand with CMA CGM, a long-standing partner."

Accordingly, the group`s affiliate Total Marine Fuels was rebranded Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions on February 1. The new organisation aims to become a leading player in the LNG bunker market.

Said CMA CGM vice chairman Rodolphe Saade: "Solutions offered by Total will enable us to minimise the environmental impact of the group`s activities and is a next step in building a more environmentally conscious shipping industry."
