Hong Kong's container throughput soars 12.4pc in October

HONG Kong`s container volume surged 12.4 per cent to 1.66 million TEU compared to 1.49 million TEU in the same month last year, according to statistics from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board.

Most of the Hong Kong`s volume is from the container terminals at Kwai Tsing that handled 1.32 million boxes in October, an increase of 8.6 per cent over the same month last year. Export containers totalled 620,000 TEU, while 706,000 TEU were imports.

Hong Kong`s box volume in the first ten months of the year totalled 15.9 million TEU, down 5.9 per cent from the same period last year.
