Le Havre advises shippers to use tax loophole to make savings

HAROPA, that union of the French ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, are marketing a legal tax loophole for importers into France called a "reverse charge procedure for VAT (value added tax)".

Since October 1, importing cargo for the French market can benefit from the reverse charge procedure for VAT, said the port authority.

"This status makes it possible to clear through customs and deduct the VAT with a single CA3 form and then avoid paying for the tax and then claim a refund - a cash saving," says a port authority statement.

The appropriate form is available at the Economic Action Centre (Pole d`Action Economique) in Le Havre.
