GERMANY`s big container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has been named "Containership Operator of the Year" for its IPO in 2015 and for its mergers with CSAV and UASC in a difficult market environment.

The accolade was presented by Lloyd`s List at its London gala at the National Maritime Museum, attended 450 representatives of the world shipping community.

The awards jury praised Hapag-Lloyd`s bold steps and examples of successful cultural transformation in a globally active company.

"The award is a great honour for our company," said Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen. "In its long history, our company has already often proved itself to be an innovative and active shaper of the industry - and, at present, it`s also doing so as a consolidator."

Mr Habben Jansen said he was optimistic that the company would play a prominent role in our industry in the future.
