HIT reports 70pc fewer accidents and 20pc fewer injuries in H1

THERE has been a 70 per cent reduction year on year in the first half stevedoring accidents at Hongkong International Terminal (HIT), revealed CEO Gerry Yim to three "town hall" meetings attended by 1,200 staff this week.

As a result of company health and safety and health initiatives, he told the employees, there had also been a 20 per cent reduction in the injury rate. 

The gathering of employees also took the time to honour HIT`s engineering most improved apprentices with Hong Kong Labour Department awards.

Tang Siu Hin was selected as one of the 10 awardees of most improved trainees under the Hong Kong Governnment`s Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) 2016. 

The award recognises trainees` improvement in personal growth, leadership skills or working performance. 

Tang Siu Hin joined HIT in May 2014 and is undergoing a four-year apprenticeship, in which both theoretical and practical training as well as rotation opportunities in different sections are provided for developing his all-round and professional technical skills. 

HIT is keen to nurture future talents for the port industry by offering students various training and placement opportunities, said the HIT statement.
