GENEVA`s MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has celebrated the christening of the "Oscar Class` 19,224-TEU MSC Sveva, built by Daewoo, during her call at the French port of Le Havre.

These Oscar Class ships are equipped with a new generation engine with low fuel consumption to reduce CO2 emissions.

Like the MSC Oscar, MSC Sveva is operated under the Asia-Europe service and offers competitive transit times of 24 days between Yantian and Le Havre, and 28 days to Shanghai, a statement from port authorities said.

The connections offered by MSC barges between Le Havre and Rouen also allow importers to have good transit times with facilitated customs procedures, adapted to river transport.

These river transport services are extended across the Seine axis and in particular the port of Gennevilliers, which has a high concentration of import share from Asia.

MSC has made the Port of Le Havre one of its major hub ports in western Europe and has opened an office on-site. A choice reinforced in 2011 when the shipping company invested in a new terminal, with 1,400 metres of quay at Port 2000.

MSC France has 370 employees at the Port of Le Havre, including 280 based in its office.
