LA-Long Beach volume up in May, but LA outgrows LB 10.8pc to 0.8pc

THE Port of Los Angeles container volume increased 10.8 per cent year on year in May to 770,409 TEU, while the adjacent rival Port of Long Beach posted an 0.8 per cent increase in containers to 640,566 TEU.

LA posted a year-to-date increase of 8.67 per cent to 3.45 million TEU, while Long Beach volume increased 1.4 per cent to 4.51 million TEU.

LA imported 400,766 laden TEU in May, a 15 per cent year-on-year increase. The port exported 162,487 laden TEU in May, a 6.3 per cent increase from the same month last year. But LA exports were down 11 per cent year on year.

Long Beach laden inbound boxes were up one per cent in May to 330,639 TEU together with a year-to-date increase of 0.4 per cent to 2.27 million TEU.

May laden outbound containers increased two per cent to 138,594 TEU with year-to-date figures falling 0.4 per cent to 987,501 TEU. May empties were down 0.4 per cent to 171,333 with year-to-date volumes up 4.9 per cent at 1.25 million TEU.
