Singapore container volumes declined 8pc in March to 2.52 million TEU

THE Port of Singapore`s container volumes declined eight per cent year on year in March, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Singapore handled 2.52 million TEU, down eight per cent from 2.74 million TEU seen in March 2015, MPA figures showed.

Last month`s volumes, however, rose 5.9 per cent compared to 2.39 million TEU recorded in February this year.

From January to March 2016, Singapore port registered a total throughput of 7.39 million TEU, down 9.1 per cent compared to 8.13 million TEU in the previous corresponding period.
