A-E rate off 9pc to US$211/TEU, fell 8pc to USWC, dropped 5pc to USEC

SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to Northern Europe fell nine per cent to US$211 per TEU in the week ending Friday, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI). 

The Asia-Med component of the SCFI fell 14 per cent to US$203 per TEU, Reuters reported. 

Shanghai to the US west coast declined eight per cent to $810 per FEU as rates to the US east coast fell five per cent to $1,710 per FEU. 

Freight rates of Shanghai to Santos dropped 90 per cent over the past 12 months, cutting over $1,000 per TEU to $113 per TEU, according to Alphaliner. 

Average spot rates on 11 global east-west routes connecting Asia, Europe and the U.S. reached a record low of $701 per TEU since June 2011, according to the World Container Index (WCI).
