THE volume of trade between Iran and China dropped 41 per cent in 2015 to US$2.07 billion as oil prices plunged, reports Iran`s Tasnim News Agency.

According to the report, exports from China to Iran declined to $1.3 billion in January 2016 from $2.25 billion a year earlier, showing a 42 per cent decrease.

Also, China`s imports from Iran dropped to $1.25 billion in the same period, showing a year-on-year 39 per cent decline.

The fall in the bilateral trade comes against a backdrop of plunging crude oil prices. Beijing is the top customer of Iran`s crude and is seen as Tehran`s biggest trading partner.

Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $31.09 billion in 2015, witnessing a 34 per cent decrease compared to the previous year.

Iran is strategically located in the Middle East, sharing land borders with 15 nations and sea channels on its northern and south western coasts.
