Seaspan takes in eighth 10,000-TEUer, starts five-year charter to Maersk

SEASPAN Corporation, the Hong Kong-Vancouver shipowner, has taken delivery of a 10,000-TEU ship, the Maersk Guayaquil, built by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. 

This is the company`s eighth 10,000-TEU "Saver" design containership and seventh delivery so far this year.

The Maersk Guayaquil is starting a five-year, fixed-rate time charter with Maersk Line that contains with two consecutive one-year options. 

The ship is the first of two such vessel types to be chartered to the Danish shipping line. The delivery of the newbuilding expands the ship owner`s operating fleet to 84 vessels.

"With the delivery of the Maersk Guayaquil and the commencement of the vessel`s fixed-rate time charter, we have further positioned the company to generate sustainable and visible cash flows for shareholders," said Seaspan CEO Gerry Wang. 

"We intend to continue pursuing attractive opportunities to grow our fleet and provide leading liner companies with large, state-of-the-art `Saver" design containerships, as we build upon our contracted revenue stream of over US$6 billion." he said.
