The supply of idle ships of below 7,500 TEU is rising, with even more spot ships expected to build up in September at the end of their charter assignments.
This adds pressure on charter rates, which are easing across the board from the last peak in May and June this year, said Alphaliner.
Although the number of idle ships of above 7,500 TEU remains relativelylow, there is increasing pressure on the larger sizes due to the large number of sailing cancellations on the Asia-Europe route.
The imminent suspension of the 2M`s AE-9/Condor service would release10 vessels of 9,000-13,000 TEU.
