A-E rate off 20.5pc to US$699/TEU, transpac falls 9.9pc to $1,280/FEU

SPOT rates from Asia to north Europe fell 20.5 per cent last week to US$699 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI).

The SCFI rate to US west coast fell 9.9 per cent to $1,280 per FEU and were down 4.7 per cent to $2,812 per FEU to the US east coast.

The Shanghai-Med SCFI rate fell 21.1 per cent from the previous week to $737, reported London`s Loadstar.

Container freight rates have so far increased in five weeks this year but fallen in 21 weeks, noted Reuters.

Rates have returned to "normal" levels this week falling 10.7 percent or 79.43 points to $666.02 on July 10, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
