Japan sold 4.19 million kiloliters (26.38 million barrels) of bonded bunker fuel in 2013, edging up 0.6% year on year, data released Monday by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.

Japan`s bonded bunker fuel sales have gone up for two consecutive years now, METI data showed.

Bunker fuel demand in November and December was strong in Japan last year, amid higher prices in neighboring ports of China and South Korea due to tight supply there, said sources.

Meanwhile, sales of bonded marine diesel oil in 2013 came in at 67,392 kl, down 13.3% from a year earlier, METI data showed.

Japan imported 86,276 kl of bonded bunker fuel in 2013, down 61.9% year on year, METI data showed.

Bonded bunker fuel sales in December came in at 376,394 kl, up 14.8% from a year earlier. The volume was down 7.4% from November.

Sales of bonded marine diesel oil in December were 6,792 kl, up 1.8% from a year earlier, and up 6.3% month on month.
