Bunker fuel sales in China is estimated to have risen to 11 million mt in 2012, up 5% from an estimated 10.5 million mt in 2011, according to a survey of supplier and trade sources.

China`s largest bunker supplier, Chimbusco, sold 5.8 million-6 million mt of bunker fuel in 2012, compared to sales of just over 6 million mt in 2011, a company source said Monday.

Another bunker fuel supplier, Sinopec Zhoushan, was among the active sellers in the market last year, traders said. A source with Sinopec Zhoushan confirmed that company sold more bunker fuel in 2012, compared with 2011, but declined to reveal volumes.

In addition to Chimbusco and Sinopec Zhoushan, there are four other bunker fuel suppliers in China - China Changjiang Bunker Company, Sinobunker, Brightoil, and CNPC & TAFO.

According to another supplier source, bunker fuel sales at the other four suppliers were lower in 2012, compared with 2011.

Bunker fuel demand was curtailed last year with the shipping sector hit by a sluggish global economy. Singapore, the world`s top bunkering port, saw its bunker fuel sales slip 1.2% year on year to 42.7 million mt in 2012, Platts reported previously citing data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
