China to make big cuts customs and quarantine charges to boost trade

CHINA`s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced decision to lower customs inspection and quarantine charges for imports and exports and to simplify collection methods from January 1 to encourage the steady growth of foreign trade, Xinhua reports.


The move is said to be able to cut CNY5.2 billion (US$833.96 million) cost for importers and exporters.


According to the announcement, the charge for imports and exports will be lowered from 0.15 per cent and 0.12 per cent of the cargo value to 0.08 per cent. Charge of medium soil and vegetable oil will be reduced from 0.067 per cent to 0.03 per cent. Charge of small quantity of food will be cut down from 0.4 per cent to 0.08 per cent.

 
For every batch of border or mainland-Taiwan petty trade cargo with a value of CNY100,000 or lower, charges will be lowered to CNY30.


Some of the energy product will be changed from charging by value to by volume. Minerals, sand, slag and ash will be charged CNY0.6 per tonne. Natural gas and petroleum will be charge CNY0.08 per tonne.

 
NDRC has also simplified the payment methods from charging different kinds of cargo differently to only one uniform method and will cancel repeated charges.
