VESSELS in Hong Kong harbour near the airport are advised to proceed with caution for the next 10 months so not to collide with acoustic monitors on the seabed at five separate locations to collect data on dolphins.

The acoustic monitors are pyramid-shaped and one metre long, one metre wide and 500 centimetres high and will be embedded on the bottom.

Regular diving operations to collect data and inspect the monitors will be carried out every two months.

Diving operations will be carried out by a workboat in locations below. Works will take place from 7am to 7pm, but not on Sundays or public holidays. The vessel engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

The dolphin monitoring locations have the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum): 22 deg. 18.150`N / 113 deg. 52.849`E; 22 deg. 19.228`N / 113 deg. 54.391`E; 22 deg. 19.527`N / 113 deg. 55.349`E; 22 deg. 19.631`N / 113 deg. 56.339`E; and 22 deg. 20.295`N / 113 deg. 53.918`E.
