FOUR logistics workers at a collapsed subsidiary of MGF Logistique in Northern France, have ended their hunger strike after unions representing 53 workers reached an agreement with management bringing to an end the two-week occupation a company depot.

The four workers began a hunger strike on July 31 to further demand that most workers be transferred to other parts of the company or receive more severance pay.

Earlier, staff had threatened to blow up the group`s 14,000-square metre facility at Orchies, near Lille, where paints, aerosols and solvents were stored.

"We have reached a draft agreement with management which will see 11 workers transferred to one of the company`s customers while provision is also made to find jobs for other workers at the site. There has also been an improved offer in the severance bonuses paid to redundant workers.

"However, we stick to our claims that MGF Logistique and its parent company G7, organised the site`s demise, by transforming it into a subsidiary, as recently as last April, thus reducing their collective responsibility when bankruptcy, followed by liquidation, was declared last month," said a union official.
