DHL and China Merchants open Qianhaiwan Integrated Logistics Centre

CHINA Merchants Bonded Logistics Co Ltd (CMBL) and German express delivery giant DHL have opened the DHL Qianhaiwan Integrated Logistics Centre (QHW ILC) at the Qianhaiwan Bonded Port.

The 71,000-square-metre logistics centre is located within the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone.


"The opening of the Qianhaiwan Integrated Logistics Centre marks an expansion of DHL`s logistics service capabilities," said Deutsche Post DHL chief executive Frank Appel. "We believe Qianhai is a strategic area of rapid expansion in logistics and it will be an engine of modern development."

 
Said China Merchants president Fu Yu-Ning: "CMG [China Merchants Group] will enhance the strategic partnership with DHL and expand its investment on the development of Qianhai, which plays a vital role in the construction and operation of the Qianhaiwan Bonded Port as well as advancing Hong Kong-Shenzhen service industry development."

 
The Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone is a designated independent zone with preferential business policies. Its mission is to develop innovative physical mechanisms to modernise the service sector, consolidate the development of a modern service industry, pioneer cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland China, guide the enhancement of sectors in the Pearl River Delta Region, and showcase the innovative cooperation between the modern service industries in Guangdong and Hong Kong, according to a DHL statement.


DHL commenced operations in the Shenzhen Qianhaiwan bonded zone that is currently operated by China Merchants Group in 2008. The new QHW ILC combines CMG`s expertise in asset-heavy investment, bonded port operations and management with DHL`s established role in logistics and advanced customer service capabilities.
