Maersk to hike rates on major trade lanes worldwide in August and September

DENMARK`s Maersk Line, the world`s largest carrier, recently announced it will increase rates on major trade lanes worldwide starting from August and September.


From August 1, Maersk will raise rates US$250 per TEU and $500 per FEU and 40-foot high cube container on cargo from the Far East to north Europe and the Mediterranean.


Starting August 15, rates on Asia-US west coast reefer shipments will be up $1,000 per 40-foot high cube container, and $1,250 per 40-foot high cube box for all US east coast destinations.

 
From September 1, rates will go up $200 per TEU and $400 per FEU on westbound trade from the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent to north Europe and the Mediterranean.


Also beginning September 1, rates for the eastbound trade from north Europe to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent will increase $150 per TEU and $200 per FEU.

 
Said Maersk: "In order to continue offering our broad portfolio of services and high level of reliability, it will be necessary for us to implement a number of rate increases/restorations."
