The decline comes after a week which saw rates on the trade soar 21.9 per cent or $339 to $1,888 per TEU.
All of the major trades followed suit last week with Asia-Mediterranean rates slipping 4.2 per cent to $1,812 per TEU, and rates from Asia to the US east coast down 0.6 per cent and off 0.4 per cent to the west coast.
Spot rates to the US east coast now stand at $3,728 per FEU, while rates to the west coast are $2,561 per FEU.
Across all trades covered by the index, the SCFI contracted 2.6 per cent to 1,421.94 points.
