GRAND Alliance shipping lines, Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL, are suspending their JCX service that calls at ports in north China, Korea, Japan and the US west coast over the slack winter season, starting from late October.

The JCX deployed six ships of 4,200 to 4,500 TEU, offering an average weekly capacity of 4,307 TEU, reports Paris-based Maritime consultants Alphaliner.

It said that all JCX port pairs will be retained through adjustments on other loops, with an eighth vessel being added to the SCX service to cover ports in Japan.

A sixth vessel will be added to the CCX service to include a port call at Qingdao. The SCX service will scrap its eastbound call at Kaohsiung but this port call will be added to the SSX service.

Over the winter season, the port rotation for the SCX will be Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen-Shekou, Cai Mep, Laem Chabang, Singapore, Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Oakland and back to Tokyo. This service will use eight 6,500-TEU vessels.

The port rotation for the CCX will be Busan, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai-Waigaoqiao, Shanghai-Yangshan, Busan, Los Angeles, Oakland and back to Busan, using six ships ranging from 5,500-6,500 TEU.
