EVERGREEN and Cosco are swapping slots on the Far East-Red Sea route while CSCL and Yang Ming are doing it on the Asia-Europe trade as tonnage afloat increases and demand slackens.

A formal slot exchange agreement has been signed between Evergreen and Cosco on their two Far East-Red Sea services. Alphaliner reports that Evergreen`s FRS service, which uses seven 2,800- to 3,400-TEU vessels, and Cosco`s FRX service, which uses four 3,400-TEU ships are both on a seven-week rotation.

The port rotation for the FRS is Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Shekou, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Aden, Sokhna, Aqaba, Singapore and back to Shanghai. The FRX calls at Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Shenzhen-Shekou, Singapore, Aden, Jeddah, Sokhna, Aqaba, Shenzhen-Yantian and back to Shanghai.

In a separate development, CSCL and Yang Ming have engaged in a slot swap agreement on four Far East-North Europe loops.

Yang Ming takes slots on CSCL`s AEX 1, operated jointly with Evergreen while the AEX 7 is operated by CMA CGM, Evergreen and UASC. CSCL takes slots from Yang Ming on the CKYH NE 4 and NE 6 loops, branded respectively AEX 9 and AEX 5 by CSCL.
