Port of Los Angeles earmarks US$10.7 million to upgrade TraPac box shop

THE Port of Los Angeles passed its US$976.6 million annual budget for this year and next with the most eye-catching items being $10.7 million earmarked to upgrade the TraPac container terminal and another $5.6 million to improve the APL terminal at Berths 301-306.

Reflecting higher revenues, the budget was 7.4 per cent higher, or up by $67 million, reported Newark`s Journal of Commerce. Container volume in Los Angeles in the calendar year 2010 increased 16 per cent year on year. Its financial year ends June 30.


The port will also spend $45 million on waterfront construction and $44 million on upgrading surface infrastructure. The Clean Air Action Plan will absorb $7.2 million and $2.7 million will go to the clean truck programme, $2.5 million for the vessel speed reduction, $1.5 million for the technology advancement and $500,000 for the TraPac programme to provide cold ironing.


Port executive director Geraldine Knatz said capital construction was pivotal to maintain LA`s position as America`s biggest box port.
