POLAND`s DCT Gdansk and Demark`s Maersk Line have announced the arrivals of first regular E class 15,500-TEU vessels that have started calling at DCT Gdansk in the Baltic Sea region on the Asia-Europe (AE10) service.

This comes after Maersk and DCT established a regular connection between the Far East and Gdansk in January 2010 first served by 8,000-TEU vessels. With the upgrade to 15,500-TEU vessels - currently the largest in the world - the Baltic port has celebrated the arrival of the Maersk Elba, a statement from the terminal operator said.

Said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk: "I have been talking to those who are engaged in DCT Gdansk`s development and I have been convinced of the need of maximum coordination and concentration of efforts, also government and parliamentary efforts to remove barriers that hinder many business ventures. Here, as through a lens, we can see what changes are required to compete with such giants as Hamburg, Rotterdam or St Petersburg."

Said Maersk Line CEO Eivind Kolding: "We want to develop our business with DCT because we understand that this region has a huge potential."
