OOCL confirms ordering six 13,000-TEU vessels from Samsung

HONG KONG-based OOCL has officially confirmed signing a contract with Korea`s Samsung Heavy Industries for building six 13,000-TEU containerships, marking the first OOCL megaship order of this size.

The six containerships are to be delivered by 2013, said the company statement. This ends weeks of speculation in the world shipping press reporting that this was to be announced, followed by refusals to confirm or deny these early reports.
