JAPAN`s shipping group NYK is to provide an offshore platform in its vessel Yamatai to ship relief supplies to victims of the Sendai earthquake and tsunami.
The NYK established the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake Task Force during the aftermath of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that reached heights up to 10 metres to hit Japan`s east coastline. The module carrier Yamatai will be used as a platform for helicopters to provide relief to victims and will be operated by NYK-Hinode Line Ltd.
The vessel built in 2010 of a deadweight tonnage of 19,500 tons has sailed from Masan, Korea and will arrive at Sanriku around March 20 to be positioned in Miyagi prefecture.
The NYK Group offers its condolences to the victims of the Sendai earthquake and tsunami as it seeks a quick recovery of the area and its people.
