Frankfurt Airport sees air freight volumes rise 5.2pc in November

THE operator of Frankfurt Airport in Germany, Fraport AG, has announced that the airport handled a record 198,333 metric tons of air freight in November 2010, representing an increase of 5.2 per cent compared to the same month last year.

From January to November, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) handled a total of 2,051,675 metric tons of air freight, up 23.4 per cent year on year.


Passenger traffic rose by nearly six per cent in November to more than 4.1 million passengers. In the first 11 months of the year, a total of 49.2 million passengers passed through the airport`s gates, up 4.5 per cent against the same period in 2009.


"We are very satisfied that passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport continued on a noticeable growth path again in November," said Fraport AG executive board chairman Dr Stefan Schulte in a company statement. "Currently, our efforts are focused on mastering the weather-related challenges at FRA and the resulting impact on our passengers," he added.


Aircraft movements climbed by 1.5 per cent to 38,959 takeoffs and landings in November. Fraport registered a total of 430,308 movements, up 0.7 per cent, for the January to November 2010 cumulative period.


Fraport also registered year-on-year increases in passenger numbers at its other majority-owned airports from January to November, with Antalya Airport in Turkey serving approximately 21.6 million passengers, up 18.9 per cent; Lima Airport in Peru with 9.4 million passengers was up 16.5 per cent; Burgas Airport on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with 1.9 million passengers was up 11.1 per cent; and Varna Airport also on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with 1.2 million passengers was up 0.5 per cent.


Fraport said that in total, more than 83.3 million passengers used its five majority-owned airports from January to November, up 9.3 per cent year on year.
