Engine room fire breaks out on box ship off South Africa

FIRE broke out aboard a 162-metre containership Boundary, 27 nautical miles off Britannia Bay on South Africa`s Western Cape.

The fire started in the engine room about 9am, reported the South African Press Association. After receiving the request for help, the National Sea Rescue Institute Mykonos launched the rescue vessel Spirit of Freemasonry and arrived at 11:35am. By 12:55pm. The ship`s Filipino crew and German officers who were unhurt brought the fire under control.


Both the SA Air Force 22 Squadron Air Sea Rescue Unit and the Titan Air Sea Rescue Unit were on high alert, said the report.
