OECD sees box trade rising 10pc this year and 10pc next

THE Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) says recession is unlikely despite the mere 1.5 per cent GDP increase following its predicted rise of 1.75 per cent for its G7 members, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, UK and the US.

G7 sea trade is expected to increase with container trades rising more than 10 per cent this year, and rising again at least 10 per cent in 2011.


Brazil, Russia, India and China - known as the BRICs - are helping to pull the world economy out of the doldrums, reports London`s Containerisation International.


While fears of a mere inventory build-up peaked last year, unemployment in the US and in Europe have levelled with manufacturing in US, Japan, Europe and China exceeding 50 per cent in the second quarter, according to the Purchasing Managers` Index.
