Cross-strait deal doubles Hangzhou-Taiwan trade

A MAINLAND-TAIWAN trade deal, the Economic Co-operation Framework Agreement (ECFA), signed June 29, has more than doubled Hangzhou-Taiwan trade to US$23.99 million, reported Xinhua.

From July to late August, Hangzhou`s imports from Taiwan amounted to $14.1 million, up 164 per cent and exports $9.9 million, up 99 per cent.


According to the statistics of Industry and Commerce Administration of Zhejiang province at where Hangzhou is located, Taiwan has already surpassed Japan to be the province`s largest import source, amounting to $7.7 billion in 2009.


Textile and electronic materials and parts were reported to be the major items imported from Taiwan to China, while Chinese products exported to Taiwan were mainly mechanical and electrical items.
