THE Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong has reported that in the first quarter of 2010 cargo volume increased 20 per cent year on year to 62.8 million tonnes.
Imports were up 18 per cent to 36 million tonnes while exports increased 23 per cent to 26.7 million tonnes. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, volume increased three per cent in the first quarter.
Seaborne cargo increased 21 per cent over a year earlier to 42.1 million tonnes, while river cargo increased 18 per cent to 20.6 million tonnes.
Domestic exports went up eight per cent to 9.5 million tonnes while re-exports increased 33 per cent to 17.3 million tonnes.
