ASIA Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) has announced its cargo throughput in April grew 65 per cent to 60,044 tonnes compared to the same month a year ago.
Exports amounted to 44,342 tonnes, an increase of 89 per cent year on year. April imports were 15,270 tonnes, up 22 per cent and transhipments stood at 431 tonnes, down five per cent year on year.
Cumulative cargo throughput from January to April 2010 grew 44 per cent compared to the same period last year for a total of 206,837 tonnes.
Within this total export tonnage from January to April 2010 was 145,196 tonnes, an increase of 58 per cent year on year. Total import tonnage for the first four months of the year rose by 20 per cent compared with the same period last year, to 60,263 tonnes. Transhipment cargo volume was up three per cent at 1,379 tonnes.
AAT corporate development general manager Nelson Lee said: "Continuous strong import and export growth fully reflected the fast pace of economic recovery. However, we should not underestimate the new domino effect from the Greek`s fiscal crisis."
