MAERSK is to extend its US$10 no-show fine to US export boxes of wastepaper and scrap at Los Angeles and Oakland on its TP-8 service after having already applied it on Asia-Middle East loops.
The fine will be levied on these commodities because they have a 30-40 per cent higher no-show rate. The same amount will be refunded to exporters bumped or rolled on exports booked on specific passage, with each payment effective as of May 1.
Maersk said such commodities are often booked in large volumes which means the culminated fines for a no-show following a 72 hour cut-off will be a deterrent.
