Fujian ports` throughput up 14.7 pc in first two months

PORTS in southeast China`s Fujian province posted a year-on-year 14.7 per cent increase in throughput to 46.67 million tonnes in the first two months, contributing to 14.6 per cent of the expected annual volume of 2010, reports Xinhua.
Its Fuzhou port registered 12.2 million tonnes, up 4.5 per cent, while Meizhouwan port with a 2.7 per cent to 14.44 million tonnes and Xiamen port with a 33.8 per cent to 20.1 million tonnes in the first two months.
Total container throughput grew 27.4 per cent to 1.22 million TEU, namely Fuzhou handled 208,000 TEU with a 41 per cent increase and Xiamen port, 840,000 TEU with a 24.7 per cent rise. PORT of Shanghai lifted 1.88 million TEU in February, up 23 per cent over the same period a year ago, Xinhua reported.On February 5, the port achieved a record a daily throughput for the month at 102,123 TEU.In the first two months of year, Shanghai recorded a cumulative box volume of 4.12 million TEU, up 20 per cent year on year.In February, Shanghai International Port Group`s (SIPG) throughput tonnage rose 30.7 per cent to 28.2 million tonnes. Foreign trade cargo amounted to 18.5 million tonnes, up 33.7 per cent.
